When hail damage occurs, usually you will have 12 months to file a claim with your insurance provider. Do not put this off as it decreases the value of your home and can get expensive to pay out of pocket.
The process of filing a hail damage insurance claim
1.) Call a Hail Damage Contractor for an Estimate
Believe it or not, the first step to filing a hail damage insurance claim is NOT by calling your insurance company. Before this, you need to have a roofing contractor that specializes in storm damage, such as SMART Construction, take a look at your roof to see if there are damages that are fixable. SMART Construction will take pictures of the damage, so it is easy to paint a picture describing it to the insurance company. SMART Construction provides a FREE inspection, so there is no obligation for you. On top of a free roof inspection, we can help you with the claims process.
2.) Call Your Insurance
The next step is to figure out if your homeowner’s insurance policy covers hail damage and find the policy number and deductible to speed up the process. Document all of the damage prior to filing the claim including the date that the storm occurred on. Taking pictures of the damage and even the size of the hail will be helpful. Once you talk to an agent, the insurance company will file the claim and will make an appointment for someone to come inspect your home.
3.) Insurance Roof Inspection
After the claim is looked at, your insurance company will set you up with a claims adjuster who will assess the exact damage that was caused by the specific storm. They will send this back to the insurance company who will then review and calculate how much money you will get for the roofing repairs.
4.) Schedule your Roof Repairs
After the evaluation is finished, you will receive your claim check in the mail for the coverage minus the deductible. Then your roofing contractor can start repairing your roof, and the damage will be like it never happened!
